A student-centric university

See how the University of Groningen has approached technology enhanced learning to meet the demands of today’s learners. Following a strategic decision to move to Blackboard Managed Hosting, it not only freed up valuable resources, but led to a more stable, 24/7 experience for its faculty and students and an even stronger uptake of Blackboard Learn.

Attracting students from afar

The University of Derby uses Virtual Open Days to help grow their fully online distance learning business, giving students chance to experience Blackboard Collaborate. This has become the key way for the University to convert enquirers through to enrolments, whilst giving prospective students an in depth overview of a specific course or subject area.

Providing effective and available support for academic staff

To achieve its goal of effective institution-wide online coursework submission using Blackboard Learn, the University needed to discover the levels of digital literacy among its teaching staff. Following a comprehensive training needs analysis, it identified the key skills that were required and where there were gaps in academic staff skillsets.

Developing excellence in professional skills through simulation

The University of the West of England embarked on an initiative to embed the development of professional skills across all areas of study offered by the institution. One of the first projects was SIMITA (SIMulations In Transactional Activities), which provided a seamless experience via Blackboard Learn and Blackboard Collaborate.

Embedding blended learning: managing for institutional change

To carry out its ‘Towards Manchester 2015’ strategic plan, the University of Manchester had to create confidence in the central provision of virtual learning environment services. It needed strong executive sponsorship, as well as external expertise and a committed team from across the university to progress towards a successful implementation.

Achieving aggressive enrolment goals

With aggressive enrolment goals, Edge Hill took a strategic decision to invest in Blackboard Learn, its virtual learning environment. With its IT department stretched, the University chose Blackboard Managed Hosting to benefit from a much more stable and reliable VLE that couldn’t be replicated internally.

Improving the quality of the online student experience

Find out how senior executive sponsorship at the University of Salford elevated the use of e-learning, e-submission and e-marking and set about raising the effectiveness of Blackboard Learn to offer a more intuitive, consistent and improved online experience for students and academics.
